TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning announced their preliminary training camp roster today, consisting of 27 players. The Lightning's landmark 20th training camp in franchise history will open tomorrow at the Tampa Bay Times Forum with the team also hosting Fan Fest beginning at 9 a.m. The team will practice at 12:30 p.m.
The Lightning's training camp roster includes 15 forwards with key returnees, reigning NHL goal-scoring champion Steven Stamkos, Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier, Teddy Purcell and Ryan Malone, as well as newcomers Benoit Pouliot and B.J. Crombeen. It also features up-and-comers such as reigning American Hockey League Most Valuable Player Cory Conacher and fan favorite Pierre-Cedric Labrie.
Attendees on defense include key off-season additions Sami Salo (from Vancouver) and Matt Carle (from Philadelphia), as well as a strong incumbent defensive corps that consists of the likes of Eric Brewer, Victor Hedman, Marc-Andre Bergeron and Brian Lee. In all, the team announced 10 blue-liners today.
The Lightning camp roster consists of two goaltenders, Mathieu Garon and Anders Lindback. Garon led all Bolts goaltenders in games played, wins, goals-against average and save percentage last season. He posted a 12-3-2 record in his final 17 starts before suffering a groin injury. Lindback enters his first training camp in Tampa Bay after being acquired from Nashville in June. He posted a 2.42 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 16 games with the Predators last season while backing up Pekke Rinne.
After Sunday's practice and Fan Fest, the Lightning will head to Germain Arena in Estero, FL to practice Monday through Thursday. The team will return to the ice with a Free Lunch Friday and open practice on Friday at the Times Forum.
