Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman has taken over the golf course this summer and by the looks of this picture https://twitter.com/tikitalk10/status/342299470882553856/photo/1 he has not done too bad for himself.
Hedman looks to be holding a trophy of some sort and is joined by fellow Scandinavian and five time Stanley Cup Champion Esa Tikkanen. Tikkanen, who tweeted the photo out, was known for his hard-to-understand “Tiki-talk” during his NHL years. I wonder if Victor had any luck understanding the retired NHLer? I know that google translate could not understand his verbage in that tweet.
Diamond In the Rough…
Martin St. Louis, who went undrafted, was given a shot by the Calgary Flames in 1998 and since then he has never looked back.
Popular hockey personality Bob McKenzie stirred the hockey atmosphere today as he tweeted “I suppose Marty St. Louis is considered best ever college UFA signing but Andy McDonald is up there. Huge impact on ANA in 07 Cup win,” in the wake of Andy McDonald’s retirement.
Many people fire back at McKenzie on the social media site and another name that was brought up was Adam Oates, who was an assistant coach for the Lightning during the 2009-10 campaign.
Either way the Tampa Bay Lightning have ties to some of the best undrafted players in the game with Marty St. Louis and Adam Oates.
Fear the Beard
The “Playoff Beard” has been around the NHL since the early 1980s when the New York Islanders started a trend, winning four Stanley Cups during that time period.
The beard is a signal of team comradery as players do not shave their facial hair until they are eliminated from the playoffs or win the Stanley Cup.
The Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins all still stand in the 2013 playoffs and you can see it on some of the players faces.
Some of the best beards left can be seen here http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/stanley-cup-beard-watch-frontrunners-nhl-beard-204600271.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
The Blackhawks did an entertaining video piece with their junior reporter Joey about playoff beards. Give it a look http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/joey-junior-blackhawks-reporter-returns-talk-playoff-beards-141449047.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
We Are Los Angeles
In the midst of the Kings second straight playoff run, a group of Los Angeles fans, who happen to be musicians composed somewhat of an anthem dedicated to the Los Angeles Kings and its following.
The group calls themselves The Goon Squad. I think they did a pretty good job with this song.
A lot of times you see fans make these parody songs and videos in honor of their favorite teams, but most of the time they are real original.
This is a little different because I feel it is pretty genuine. See what you think for yourself. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/pass-fail-los-angeles-kings-los-angeles-anthem-212135604.html
