Lightning Comeback Not Enough Against Blue Jackets
Tampa Bay got second period power play goals from Marek Kvapil and Radek Smolanek. The goal by Kvapil was his second of the tournament.
Down, 7-2, in the third period the Lightning mounted their come back with familiar faces from the tournament's opening game. Justin Keller, who netted goal goals on Tuesday, started the rally with an even strength goal early in the third. Captain Adam Henrich scored two goals at even strength and Blair Jones added his second goal of the tournament but the rally came up short and Columbus handed the Lightning an 8-6 loss. 2005 draftee goaltender Kevin Beech made 33 saves on 41 shots. Tampa Bay's top pick in 2004, Andy Rogers recorded two assists and 2005's first round selection Vladimir Mahalik recorded his first point of the tournament with an assist on Smolanek's goal.
Henrich and Keller now lead the team in goals with three each in two games. Jones (2-1-3) and Rogers (0-3-3) each have three points in two games. Kvapil and Jones rank second in goals with two each.
The Lightning prospects will take to the ice again on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they take on the prospects of the Minnesota Wild at Republic Rink in Traverse City.
