LIGHTNING TO HOST \'PINK OUT NIGHT\' THIS FRIDAY
FANS ENCOURAGED TO WEAR PINK FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AS THE LIGHTNING FOUNDATION PRESENTS $70,000 TO THE DON & ERICA WALLACE COMPREHENSIVE BREAST PROGRAM AT THE H. LEE MOFFITT CANCER CENTER & RESEARCH INSTITUTE

The Tampa Bay Lightning will host 'Pink Out Night' in honor of breast cancer research this Friday when they take on the Washington Capitals (7:30 p.m., Sun Sports, AM 620 WDAE). The Lightning Foundation will present a check for $70,000 to the Don & Erica Wallace Comprehensive Breast Program at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute during the first intermission. Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear pink in honor of the occasion.

The Lightning Foundation's Pink Hat Project kicked off Monday, February 28 and has since sold more than 7,000 pink Lightning hats with all proceeds going directly to the Wallace Program. The hats feature the Tampa Bay logo along with an embroidered pink ribbon synonymous with breast cancer research and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute logo.

The original sales goal of 4,000 hats and $40,000 has been eclipsed thanks to many community partners and Lightning fans. With each hat the Lightning Foundation donated $10 to the program with the other half going towards the cost of the hat.

Fans attending the game that wear pink can purchase a ticket to the Lightning's game on Tuesday, November 1 against the Atlanta Thrashers at 50 percent off at the McDonald's Box Office based upon availability. The night will also feature a sports memorabilia and autographed pink hat auction behind section 106 at the St. Pete Times Forum during the game and pink thundersticks for all fans. Notable autographed pink hats up for auction include Lightning players, Mike Alstott, Jeb Bush, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriquez, Serena Williams, Brett Favre, Ichiro Suzuki, Kenny Chesney, Tom Lehman, Davis Love III, Nick Price and more. Pink hats will also be available for purchase behind sections 101, 106, 204 and in the XO Club.

Since 1998, the Lightning Foundation has donated more than $300,000 to assist Moffitt in their mission of contributing to the prevention and cure of cancer.
