LIGHTNING RECALL G BRIAN EKLUND FROM SPRINGFIELD OF THE AHL
The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Brian Eklund from Springfield of the American Hockey League, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced today. Eklund will be in the line-up tonight when the Lightning take on the Atlanta Thrashers (7:00 p.m., FSN Florida, AM 620 WDAE).

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound native of Braintree, Massachusetts has appeared in five games with the Falcons this season posting a 3-2 record and a .890 save percentage.

In his third season with Springfield, Eklund skated in 43 games in 2004-05 while posting a 3.01 goals against average and a 14-23 record. He had previously played in one game with the Falcons during the 2002-03 season allowing one goal on 37 shots for his first AHL win.

Selected in the seventh round, 226th overall, at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Eklund appeared in 81 games in two season with Pensacola of the ECHL posting a 48-23-7 record. He set an ECHL record for saves in a season with 2,194 and also led the league in wins, minutes and overtime wins during the 2003-04 season. Prior to his pro career he played four seasons with Brown in the ECAC. He had his best college season in 1999-00 when he posted a 2.95 goals against average in 12 appearances.
