LIGHTNING RE-ASSIGN C JASON JASPERS TO SPRINGFIELD

The 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning have re-assigned center Jason Jaspers to Springfield of the American Hockey League today, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced.

Jaspers, a 5-foot-11, 207-pound native of Thunder Bay, Ontario currently leads the Falcons in points with 42, goals with 19 and in power play goals with 10. He has also accumulated 38 penalty minutes. Jaspers was recalled on Saturday, January 28 and did not play Sunday at Washington.

Jaspers played in 48 games with Springfield in 2004-05 after being traded from the Utah Grizzlies. He scored 12 goals and recorded 17 assists after joining the Falcons. He had three assists with Utah through 11 games prior to the trade. He scored 57 goals and recorded 137 points in 251 career AHL games prior to the start of this season.

He has played in nine career NHL contests over three seasons (2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04), all with the Phoenix Coyotes. In those games he recorded one assist, six penalty minutes and four shots on goal.

The centerman was signed by the Lightning as a free agent on August 18, 2005. He was originally drafted by Phoenix in the third round, 71st overall, at the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
