INSIDE THE LIGHTNING - DARRYL SYDOR
Tampa Bay Lightning fans have an opportunity this month to get to know Darryl Sydor both on the ice and off as Sun Sports' popular INSIDE THE LIGHTNING series profiles the Tampa Bay defenseman in a new episode premiering statewide Monday, February 20, at 8:00pm.
Host Paul Kennedy talks with Darryl from his home in Tampa about what it was like growing up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Darryl tells about his early days playing hockey in the backyard on a homemade rink made by his father and breaking the windows of his house along with other childhood experiences. He reflects on memories of his late mother who was and still is a major inspiration for him. In fact, he plays with her close to him each time he goes on the ice as he has a patch devoted to her sewn inside his jersey. Fans will hear Darryl talk about playing Junior Hockey in Kamloops, British Columbia and playing for the NHL's Los Angeles Kings alongside "The Great One," Wayne Gretzky; winning the Stanley Cup while in Dallas playing for the Stars and being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the middle of their Stanley Cup championship season. The show also comments from Darryl's wife, Sharlene, and Sun Sports' Lightning play-by-play announcer, Rick Peckham.
