KOVALCHUK EJECTED FOR HIT ON KUBINA
Kubina was one of several players fighting for position behind the Czech goal when Kovalchuk came from behind and hit him in the head with his arm as the Czech player twisted toward him. Kubina, who plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning, lay face-down on the ice for a bit and was bleeding as he was helped to the bench. He left for the locker room moments later.
"Hopefully I'll be OK," Kubina said after the game. "I'm going to get some good sleep - I just feel tired now. We'll see."
Kovalchuk, who plays for the Atlanta Thrashers, was given a major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. Marek Zidlicky scored during the 5-minute power play to make it 2-0.
