OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL GAME RECAP: MODIN, SWEDEN CAPTURE GOLD MEDAL WITH 3-2 WIN
PROSPAL, KUBINA BRING HOME BRONZE
Fredrik Modin will be adding an Olympic Gold Medal to his mantle next to his Stanley Cup following a 3-2 Swedish victory against Finland in the Gold Medal game at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Vaclav Prospal and Pavel Kubina will also be bringing hardware back to Tampa Bay after they downed Russia, 3-0, in the Bronze Medal game.
Modin recorded a team-high four shots on goal as Sweden came back from a 1-0 deficit after the first period. Nicklas Lindstrom, Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg netted goals for the Gold Medalists while Kimmo Timonen and Ville Peltonen scored for the Fins. Modin wraps up the tournament with two goals and an assist in eight games played. He had one power play goal.
The Czech Republic from Marek Zidlicky, Martin Straka and Martin Erat to earn a 3-0 win in the Bronze Medal game. Prospal had one shot on goal in the game and finished the tournament with a team-leading four goals. He also had two assists. Kubina finished the Olympics with a goal and an assist.
The players will trade back their country's colors for those of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday when they take on the Florida Panthers at the St. Pete Times Forum (7:30 p.m., Sun Sports, WDAE 620 AM).
