SMOLENAK SHINES AGAIN IN LIGHTNING LOSS TO ATLANTA

Radek Smolenak had his second three-point game of the Traverse City Prospect Tournament Monday night, but it wasn't enough to lift the Lightning over the Atlanta Thrashers who downed Tampa Bay, 6-4.

With the Lightning down 2-0 in the first period Smolenak got his team on the board at 15:23 of the first to cut the Thrasher lead in half. Less then three minutes later 2007 draft pick Mitch Fadden tied the game at two with an even strength goal with Smolenak providing the only assist. After two periods the score was tied at one.

In the second period Daine Todd scored his second goal of the tournament on the power play for the Lightning to even the score at three. Less than a minute later Vladmir Mihalik scored his first of the tournament to give the Lightning their first lead, 4-3. The Thrashers then scored three unanswered goals in the third period, including an empty net goal, to secure the win.

Goaltender Riku Helenius made 32 saves on 37 shots in his second appearance at Traverse City as the Lightning were outshot 38-28 in the game. Fadden finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Tampa Bay will play their final game of the tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m. against the Dallas Stars.
