DAY 2 OF SCRIMMAGES RESULT IN SECOND TIE
BRANDON – The goaltenders were the stars as Team White and Team Black skated to a 1-1 tie for the second consecutive day Sunday in training camp scrimmages at the Ice Sports Forum. Nick Tarnasky (Black) and Michel Ouellet (White) posted the goals in the contest, picking up their first points of the scrimmages.

At 7:31 of the second period Tarnasky notched his first goal of camp. From the slot, Andre Roy found Tarnasky at the front of the net where the Lightning forward back-handed a shot past Johan Holmqvist. Holmqvist finished with seven saves on eight shots in 21 minutes.

With 1:06 remaining in the scrimmage, Ouellet notched the tying goal for Team White. Positioned to the right of the net, the free agent acquisition one-timed a rebound from a Brad Richards shot past Karri Ramo.

Ramo led the trio of Lightning netminders in minutes-played with 36. He made more than 15 saves for the second consecutive day, and has allowed only one goal in 33 shots-against. One of Ramo’s best saves of the morning came against Ouellet. The forward fired a shot from the top of the slot, but Ramo made a fast glove save on the play.

Playing for Team White, Marc Denis stopped all 12 shots he faced in 32 minutes on Sunday. Early in the scrimmage Denis stopped the combination of Vaclav Prospal and Vincent Lecavalier from connecting, denying a Lecavalier shot through traffic after Prospal found him open at the right faceoff circle.

In the second period Denis held off a Martin St. Louis attempt as the Lightning forward skated in alone before firing a wrist shot towards the net. Karl Stewart also put a point-blank shot from the left side of the slot on Denis, but the Tampa Bay goalie held the puck for the save.

Through two scrimmages Denis and Ramo have only allowed a goal apiece. Forward Brad Richards leads all skaters with two assists.

With two days remaining until the opening pre-season game against the Dallas Stars, the third day of scrimmages continues at 10 a.m. on Monday morning at the Ice Sports Forum.
