TAMPA BAY - For the second consecutive season, the Tampa Bay Lightning will host “Go Green Night,” sponsored by Waste Services, Inc., to celebrate recycling and environmental awareness. This special event will take place on November 14 as the Lightning face the Carolina Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. (ION, AM 620 WDAE).

Fans can help the cause and take advantage of unique ticket deals for the game. Anyone who wears green or brings a valid transit pass to the McDonald’s Box Office at the St. Pete Times Forum on the 14th will receive $15 off any ticket. Additionally, anyone who rides their bicycle to the St. Pete Times Forum will receive free admission (secure bicycle parking will be provided).

Fans can also sign a pledge card to recycle and be entered into an in-game drawing, a statewide drawing and a national drawing. The in-game prizes will include signed merchandise, a Tradewinds Resort Weekend, a golf foursome at Saddlebrook Resort and tickets to future events.

As the St. Pete Times Forum strengthens its recycling, water and energy management, the Lightning will create awareness through a number of initiatives on Go Green Night. Several environmentally-friendly organizations will be on the plaza prior to Tuesday’s game to provide information regarding their latest green projects and efforts to protect the environment.

The St. Pete Times Forum has had a recycling program since 2003 which includes office paper, newspaper, aluminum, plastic, glass, electronics, light bulbs, cooking grease, construction waste, electronics and game programs. The Times Forum works with TECO to shave energy demand during peak times, and also replaces old electronic components with more energy efficient models. The St. Pete Times Forum asks fans to help take the next step by using the recycle containers on the concourses for bottles and cans.

This past May the Lightning and the St. Pete Times Forum were awarded a Green Business Award for their recycling efforts. The presentation was made by James Ransom from the Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department at the Green Building Conference sponsored by Hillsborough County.
