Happy New Year from the Insider! If you watched any of the NHL’s outdoor game in Buffalo today, then you’ve seen the weather the Lightning woke up to in Toronto today. The snow is heavy and there’s no sign of it letting up. Fortunately for travel reasons, the Lightning will stay in Toronto tonight before flying to Montreal tomorrow.

It was certainly nice to see Dan Boyle skating on his own after the team skate this morning. A lot of people have emailed the Insider wondering when Boyle might return to the ice for the Lightning, but there’s still no timetable on when he might get into a game.

Karri Ramo will face the Leafs again tonight, hoping to pick up his second win against Toronto in two weeks. Toronto called up former Devils backup Scott Clemmensen yesterday and it looks like he’ll get the call tonight while Vesa Toskala recovers from a groin injury.

John Tortorella was to the point with the smaller-than-usual Toronto media contingent, thanks to the outdoor game in Buffalo.

“Were in a situation here where if we don't get it [fixed] were in for an awful tough ride to be where we want to be at the end of the year,” Tortorella said.
