Suddenly, the Lightning are a pretty good road team. With wins in four consecutive games and points in six out of seven, things are looking up for the Bolts. Congrats to goaltender Johan Holmqvist, who looked to be on top of his game in back-to-back shutouts in Pittsburgh and Ottawa and who was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week today.

For the record, the last time a Lightning goaltender earned back-to-back shutouts on the road was … never! The team posted back-to-back road shutouts on January 21 (John Grahame at Atlanta) and January 28 (Sean Burke at Philadelphia) of 2006, but there were a pair of home games sandwiched in between.

After enjoying another Sunday off, the Lightning had a short and lively practice in Brandon today. Dan Boyle participated at full speed, while Michel Ouellet took part in most of the drills. Tomorrow’s opponent, the Edmonton Oilers, were on the other ice sheet in Brandon at the same time, but only about seven players and head coach Craig MacTavish were in attendance.

The game against the Oilers offers the Lightning a chance to end two dubious streaks. The Bolts have lost five in a row at home (strange considering the recent road resurgence) and so far this season they are 0-4 against the Western Conference.
