THE LIGHTNING INSIDER
The Lightning were back at it at 2 p.m. today with an energetic practice at the St. Pete Times Forum. The players all seem rested and recharged after most headed off for mini vacations at various locations. Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis and Mike Lundin all took part in the workout after having a busier weekend then their teammates.
Michel Ouellet practiced on a line with Chris Gratton and Andre Roy today, while Andreas Karlsson, Nick Tarnasky and Craig MacDonald were paired together. That left Mathieu Darche and Kyle Wanvig skating as extras, which could mean that Ouellet's return from his shoulder injury is imminent.
Now, I have to bring up something that bothered me at the NHL Skills competition on Saturday. The league chooses six of the best breakaway scorers in the game and brings in celebrity judges to score their creativity. The much-hyped new event was supposed to be similar to the NBA's slam dunk competition. So what is San Jose goalie Evgeni Nabokov thinking when he skates 15 feet out of his crease to disrupt St. Louis' first attempt? It's not a goaltending competition!
Sorry, but I just don’t get it.
