Lightning Players, Coaches To Hit The Links Monday For Sweetbay Supermarket Invitational
TAMPA BAY – On Monday, February 25, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation will partner with the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am to host the Sweetbay Supermarket Invitational, an 18-hole golf tournament at TPC Tampa Bay benefiting Outback Pro-Am Charities and the Lightning Foundation.
Lightning coaches and players – including Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis – will participate, along with Champions Tour players Andy Bean, Brad Bryant, Walter Hall and Jim Dent. Champions Tour participant and Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am Tournament Host Gary Koch will emcee the awards and cocktail reception, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. Lunch and registration starts at 10 a.m., followed by an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. TPC Tampa Bay is located at 5300 West Lutz Lake Fern Road in Lutz.
The event will kick off the 2008 Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, which will take place April 14-20 at TPC Tampa Bay. Lightning players and coaches, along with the Champions Tour participants, will be grouped into five-somes with tournament participants.
The Lightning Foundation’s “goal” is to make Tampa Bay a better place to live, work and play by supporting local organizations that enrich the lives of those living throughout the Tampa Bay community. The Foundation focuses its resources on educational enrichment opportunities for children, medical research and treatment for those in need and the advancement of amateur hockey. The Lightning Foundation’s portion of the proceeds from this event will help fund the annual Foundation Grant Program which supports deserving local charities.
The Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am has contributed more than $2.6 million to 18 different area charities during the past four years. The 2008 recipients are Bay Area Legal Services, Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and Sydney’s School for Autism.
