Congratulations to Lightning left wing Andre Roy and his wife, Karine, who welcomed their second daughter to the world at 4:05 p.m. yesterday. Eloise Roy weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces and 19 ½ inches. I’m sure Dad is hoping to play a strong game tonight in her honor!

With center Chris Gratton out indefinitely and headed to Colorado for surgery on a torn labrum in his hip, winger Junior Lessard is the latest new addition to the Lightning lineup for tonight’s 8 p.m. game against Toronto. Lessard has played well in Norfolk since being acquired from Dallas, and I’m curious to see what the former Hobey Baker winner can bring to the lineup. Filip Kuba is out once again so Alex Picard will be in the lineup again. If Picard plays like he did Wednesday against Minnesota, we’ll likely be seeing a lot more of him around here.

Jeff Halpern and Jussi Jokinen also had strong debuts Wednesday, and both look like valuable additions to the lineup. New goaltender Mike Smith, who seems absolutely unflappable and happy-go-lucky off the ice, showed what he’s capable of Wednesday as well. Down the road a bit, Lightning fans could look back at the deals made by Jay Feaster this week as the first steps in the team’s rebirth.
