Lightning Recall LW Karl Stewart From Norfolk

TAMPA BAYThe Tampa Bay Lightning have used one of their four free recalls and recalled left wing Karl Stewart from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced.


Stewart, a 5-foot-11, 172-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario, has skated in 62 games with the Admirals this season with 14 goals and 27 points. He has also scored four power-play goals and two shorthanded goals. He ranks fourth on Norfolk in goals and second in penalty minutes with 96.


Acquired at the 2007 NHL trade deadline, Stewart made his Lightning debut on March 1, 2007 at Washington. He played seven games with Tampa Bay and did not record any points. He is a veteran of 60 NHL games with Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Chicago and the Lightning and has recorded two goals and six points.


Stewart, 24, played his junior hockey with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League and recorded 64 goals and 151 points in three seasons. He had a junior career high 35 goals and 85 points in his final season.


Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Atlanta on September 28, 2001, Stewart was acquired by Tampa Bay from Chicago on February 27, 2007 with a sixth-round draft pick in exchange for Nikita Alexeev.
