Jokinen Nets Third Point Of Tournament In Finland Win, Pairings Set For Next Round

Tampa Bay’s Jussi Jokinen notched his third point of the tournament with an assist as Finland defeated Slovakia, 3-2, Wednesday to secure first place in Group C. The Finnish team will go on to play Latvia on Friday afternoon at the Halifax Metro Centre. Slovakia will face Group B’s Slovenia in the relegation round.


In other games, Switzerland defeated Sweden, 4-2, to lock up the No. 1 position in Group A. The Swiss team will face the second place team from Group D, the Czech Republic, Thursday in Quebec City. Sweden will play Denmark earlier that afternoon.


Belarus beat France Wednesday afternoon, 3-1, to send France to the relegation round, as well. They will face Italy, the last-place team from Group D. With the win, Belarus goes on to play the winner of Group D, Russia.


Finally, Norway defeated Germany, 3-2, Wednesday night to squeeze out a second-place finish in Group C. With the No. 2 slot, Norway will face Team Canada Thursday afternoon at the Halifax Metro Centre. Germany will move on to face Team USA Thursday night, also in Halifax.
