Canada, Russia secure top spots in quarterfinals; USA earns rematch against Finland
The Canadian team, fighting for the top spot in Group F, came out victorious over Finland Monday afternoon in Halifax, 6-3. Canada’s Shane Doan and Dany Heatley had two goals each, and Tampa Bay’s Jussi Jokinen recorded an assist for Finland, his fourth point of the tournament <\/span>

The Canadian team, fighting for the top spot in Group F, came out victorious over Finland Monday afternoon in Halifax, 6-3. Canada’s Shane Doan and Dany Heatley had two goals each, and Tampa Bay’s Jussi Jokinen recorded an assist for Finland, his fourth point of the tournament. With the loss, Finland locks up the No. 2 spot in Group F.

Team USA rebounded spectacularly after their frustrating loss to Finland Sunday night and came out with a 9-1 rout over Norway, securing the No. 3 spot in Group F. Brandon Dubinsky recorded a hat trick, and the Americans put 48 shots on net in the win. The Finnish loss to Canada means a USA vs. Finland quarterfinal rematch on Wednesday.

In other action Monday, Russia defeated Switzerland, 5-3, to secure the No. 1 spot in Group F. Denmark pulled out a 3-2 overtime victory against Belarus, but both teams are out of the quarterfinals.

Finally, Latvia and Germany battled Wednesday night, with Latvia vying for the fourth and final spot in Group F to advance to the quarterfinals. Germany played spoiler, however, beating Latvia, 5-3. With the German win, Norway advances to the quarterfinals in Group F and will face top-seeded Canada on Wednesday.

With the quarterfinal match-ups set, Russia will face Switzerland on Wednesday in a rematch of Monday’s game. The Czech Republic will take on Sweden in the second pairing in Group E.
