The Lightning Insider
As soon as my flight touched down in rainy, dreary Ottawa at about 515 this evening, I got the good news from Brian Breseman in the Lightning PR department that the NHL's Board of Governors had voted to approve the team's transfer of ownership to OK Hockey, headed by Oren Koules and Len Barrie. I think the change will be a great thing for the Lightning since Koules, Barrie and Co. want nothing more than to boost the Bolts back to the top of the NHL. The team isn't as far away as it seemed at times last season, and their enthusiasm to immediately put a winner on the ice is a good sign for all Lightning fans.

I also just heard that Tampa Bay worked a trade with Philly to get back the rights to Vaclav Prospal. Now, Jay Feaster will work to get him signed before he becomes a free agent July 1. I hope it gets done - Vaclav had a strong season for the Lightning and it sure makes Vinny Lecavalier happy to see him on his wing.

I caught a glimpse of downtown Ottawa on the cab ride to the Lightning's hotel, but that's probably the last I'll see of it since the team is headquartered 25 minutes away in Kanata, next to Scotiabank Place. So much for the many restaurants, pubs and shops that make Ottawa a fun town - we get a couple of chain restaurants and a movie theater (or theatre since we're in Canada).

The Lightning brass are meeting all day tomorrow to get their lists in order before the draft begins Friday evening. I'll provide an update tomorrow with any rumors that are floating around.
