Sale Of Lightning To Group Led By Oren Koules And Len Barrie Approved By NHL's Board Of Governors
Transaction Expected to Close on June 30
The National Hockey League’s Board of Governors unanimously approved the sale of the Tampa Bay Lightning today to a group led by Oren Koules and Len Barrie. The group expects to close its transaction with current Lightning owner Palace Sports & Entertainment by June 30. Also included in the sale will be the leasehold rights to the St. Pete Times Forum and approximately 5.5 acres of adjacent land.
“We are thrilled that the National Hockey League and its Governors offered its unanimous affirmation today,” said Oren Koules, who will serve as Governor of the Lightning after the transaction’s closing. “Len Barrie, myself and our other partners look forward to jumping in with both feet, ensuring Tampa Bay it will have a team to be proud of on and off the ice for years to come. Additionally, we intend to focus on the 2008-09 season immediately.”
