Lightning to Hold Prospect Camp in Victoria, B.C.

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning will conduct a week-long prospect camp in Victoria, British Columbia from July 28 through August 1. The camp, based at the Bear Mountain Resort, will feature 30 players between the ages of 18-25, including 19 players whose rights are owned by the Lightning.

“This is a great week for the players to get their first taste of what it means to be a member of the Lightning organization,” vice president of hockey operations Brian Lawton said. “The camp’s focus is on-ice skill development, off-ice training, nutrition, and, in general, what it takes and means to be a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.”

Center Steven Stamkos, selected by the Lightning first overall at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, highlights the list of participants which also includes 2006 first-round draft choice Riku Helenius and defenseman Ty Wishart, a 2006 first-round choice recently acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks. Other participants will include Norfolk (AHL) regulars Chris Lawrence and Paul Szczechura, recent Lightning draft choices such as James Wright (4th Rd., 2008), Luca Cunti (3rd Rd., 2007) and Kevin Quick (3rd Rd., 2006) and various invitees. Also scheduled to attend but not skate is 2008 7th-round draft choice David Carle, the younger brother of Lightning defenseman Matt Carle.

The camp opens Monday, July 28 at the Bear Mountain Arena complex in Colwood, British Columbia with off-ice training and practices beginning at 11:15 a.m. PT. The participants will be divided into two teams with practices and off-ice workouts taking place each day through Friday, August 1. Scrimmages will be held at 6 p.m. PT on Tuesday, July 29 and Thursday, July 31 at Bear Mountain Arena.
