New Lightning wing Ryan Malone has agreed to provide a daily update from training camp for Tampabaylightning.com until the team departs for Prague.

So we’re now in Day 6 of training camp. We just finished up our pre-game skate. We tried to get a good work out in before our pre-season game against Pittsburgh tonight. We got a good sweat in, moved our feet, got our hands going a little bit and just tried getting ready for tonight’s game.

Obviously coach hasn’t put a game plan together for us yet, but we’ll be meeting with the staff before the game and probably be going over some power play and penalty killing strategies along with the systems we’ll be playing tonight.

This training camp has definitely been a different experience for me. The main reason for that is because it’s the first year I haven’t been in Pittsburgh. Everything has honestly gone great so far. (Strength & Conditioning coach) Kevin Ziegler in the weight-room is doing a great job with us. He’s made sure our hips and groins are strong so we can avoid those groin pulls and nagging injuries that you sometimes get in the preseason. All of the practices have been well-structured and everyone on the staff has been very helpful.

Tonight I’ll be playing against a few of my former teammates from Pittsburgh. They don’t have their full roster here, but some of the guys I played with last season made the trip. I had the chance to talk to a few of them before I went on the ice for pre-game skate this morning which was nice. I can’t say I have many emotions going into the game tonight. I think the reason for that is because it’s an exhibition game and not the regular season, but I know when I see all the guys and play against them, especially in Pittsburgh, it’ll be a little more emotional so I’m looking forward to that. All of the guys have been good friends of mine and will be for years to come.

Right now I’m going to jump in the cold tub again. It’s kind of the routine around here after pre-game skate. The rink has a little pre-game meal they put together for us so I’ll be grabbing a bite in a few and then taking a nap this afternoon and coming back to the rink around 5 or so. I’ll be back tomorrow will plenty more!
