In his comments to the press yesterday head coach Barry Melrose left the door open for a possible Lightning debut by defenseman Marek Malik tonight, but that won’t happen as Melrose said Malik isn’t in game shape yet so he opted to go with the same lineup as last game.

“We need to give some of our skill guys a chance to get going,” Melrose said this morning following an optional skate. “It’s time for some of our stars to start putting the puck in the net and helping us out all over the rink.”

Mike Smith gets the nod in goal tonight, and the word this morning was that Smith had a surprise planned for tonight? Wonder what that could be?

Defenseman Andrej Meszaros didn’t skate yesterday or today after taking a shot off his leg against the Islanders Thursday, but he’ll be ready to go tonight.

Melrose said he liked the way his defense played Thursday, with the return of Paul Ranger and addition of Lukas Krajicek making a noticeable difference.
