\"Inside The Lightning: Vinny Lecavalier\"

TAMPA – Fans get up close and personal with Tampa Bay Lightning veteran player and team captain Vincent Lecavalier in the upcoming edition of Sun Sports’ all-access series INISDE THE LIGHTNING.  Well known for his extraordinary play on the ice, Lecavalier is easily identified as the face of the franchise but his generosity and humanitarian efforts off the ice has made a significant impact on the lives of many.  Hosted by Paul Kennedy, Inside the Lightning: Vinny Lecavalier premieres Thursday, December 4 at 10:30 p.m. immediately following the Boston Bruins at Lightning game telecast on Sun Sports; multiple replays will air throughout the 2008-09 NHL season.

Since being drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in 1998, he has exceeded all expectations as a player and helped the Lightning capture the most revered trophy in all of sports, the Stanley Cup.  Inside the Lightning takes viewers back to the spring of 2004 and relives the team’s unbelievable run that season.  In telling his story, Lecavalier remembers his unbelievable last-second goal in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals against the Montreal Canadiens.  His goal tied the game which eventually went into overtime and led the Lightning onto victory.

His tireless charitable and fundraising works away from the rink are just as exceptional.   The Vincent Lecavalier Foundation has helped numerous people over the years and his recent pledge of $3 million to help build the Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg will save countless lives.   Liz Willyoung, executive director of Lecavalier’s Foundation, discusses the process of how they came to select All Children’s Hospital as the beneficiary and representatives from the hospital detail the specifics of how this endeavor will benefit those in dire need.

Fellow teammates Martin St. Louis, Vinny Prospal, Paul Ranger and Steven Stamkos share their personal insight on Lecavalier’s leadership abilities as captain and speak of how he has embraced his role as ambassador of the franchise.  Lecavalier’s father, Yvon, speaks of his son’s growth over his decade in Tampa Bay as does his first NHL coach, Jacques Demers.  Additional interviews include former Lighting Captains Tim Taylor and Dave Andreychuk, former Lightning player John Cullen as well as boxer Ronald “Winky” Wright and MLB Hall Of Famer, Wade Boggs.
