The Lightning practiced at the Iceoplex in Southpointe outside Pittsburgh today due to a commercial shoot on the ice at Mellon Arena. The players bused over to the arena to get geared up and then it was back on the bus for the 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic. It is actually one of the nicer practice rinks on the circuit. The weather continues to be quite cold and we are starting to see some snow today, though nothing like they got on the eastern part of the state.

Rick Tocchet told the media today that Mike Smith will get the nod in goal tomorrow against the Pens. He acknowledged that Vinny Lecavalier has not had the best season for his standards. Tocchet said the Lecavalier needs to worry about being an "A-B player" meaning he needs to focus on simplifying his game and the rest will follow.

If you ever go to Pittsburgh and you're a fan of sushi, you've got to check out the Original Fish Market. I dined there with one of the Lightning beat writers last night and had one of the best spicy tuna rolls ever. Well now its time for something a little more local so I'm off to Primanti Brothers for lunch. You've haven't lived until you've had a sandwich with coleslaw and french fries between the bread! On a side note, condolences to Video Coach Nigel Kirwan who was eliminated from his survivor football pool yesterday when the Atlanta Falcons downed the Minnesota Vikings. Still pretty impressive to make it 16 weeks though.
