As we left the hotel for the morning skate at Mellon Arena this morning Bob Marley's 'Three Little Birds' played outside the lobby on the sound system. Hopefully everything little thing will be alright with the Lightning as they end this two-game holiday road trip tonight against the Penguins.
Mike Smith will be in between the pipes for the Lightning tonight as I said yesterday and a decision has not been made on who will sit out. Today was all about Ryan Malone though as he makes his return to Pittsburgh. Rick Tocchet even told the media that Malone was singing the song 'Memories' to him on the ice this morning. Malone, who's dad Greg played for the Penguins and was also in attendence this morning, was born, raised and played here to start his career will face the Penguins for the first time since signing with Tampa Bay during the summer. Since it was pretty much Pittsburgh's decision not to sign him I highly doubt there will be any boo's tonight.
That's pretty much it for today. At this point the Lightning are just looking for two points any way they can get it. Hopefully the points will be wrapped tight and neatly placed under the tree tonight. Have a fun and safe holiday and we'll be back for Friday's game at Florida.
