The Lightning return home tonight after a successful three-game road trip to play the first of four consecutive games at the St. Pete Times Forum. Tampa Bay and Toronto met last Thursday with the Lightning taking a 4-1 decision at the Air Canada Centre. Not that we’re keeping score, but Tampa Bay has posted a 3-0-0 record against the Leafs this season and will skate for the first season sweep of the Maple Leafs in franchise history tonight.
The Lightning were in the St. Patty’s Day spirit this morning as the forwards wore green jerseys while the defensemen wore the usual grey. Matt Lashoff was recalled on an emergency basis this morning and is expected to be in the line up tonight, making him the 20th blue-liner to suit up for the Lightning this season. According to Rick Tocchet the scouting report is that he has a little bit of offense to his game and will probably get some time on the power play. Tocchet acknowledged that the expectations on Lashoff are a little higher because he is a former first-round pick.
Tocchet also recognized the play of Cory Murphy in the previous five or six games. He attributed the Lightning’s success of late to better movement and not just playing the perimeter. Tocchet pointed to Murphy specifically, saying “Murphy has done a great job. It’s like he is everywhere.” He said it puts a lot more pressure on the defense if they don’t know where a guy like Murphy is.
It was good seeing Ollie Kolzig this morning. He is still living at his house in St. Pete since being dealt to the Maple Leafs. Kolzig joked this morning that he thought he would come over and “meet his new teammates.” It looks as though Adam Hall will sit tonight to allow David Koci into the line up. Karri Ramo will make his fourth consecutive start in goal.
