Facing the Sabres Tonight
The Lightning welcome in the Buffalo Sabres tonight for their first match-up of the season. Tampa Bay has won three consecutive games at home dating back to October 10 when they beat the Carolina Hurricanes. Making it four straight tonight will not be an easy task as Buffalo comes in with a 2-0-0 record on the road and a 5-1-1 record overall.
Head Coach Rick Tocchet continues to stress players going about their game the right way. He praised the line of Jeff Halpern, Drew Miller and Alex Tanguay this morning for their attention to detail. "Halpern's line gives the team a chance to win every night," Tocchet said. "They don't cheat."
There are a couple interesting story lines tonight. For starters, Drew Miller will be facing his brother, Sabres goaltender Ryan, for the second time in his career. They faced off against each other a few seasons ago when Drew played for the Anaheim Ducks. Hopefully Drew can use a little "inside information" to net his first of the season.
The other major storyline is James Wright. He will be playing his ninth game of the season tonight. It is the final game before he can be returned to his junior team without the year counting against his contract. Wright said today that he is fairly nervous about what will happen after the game. Tocchet told the media this morning that he expects to talk to Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton after the game and a decision has not been made. Give Wright credit for making the decision a hard one after solid defensive play and also netting his first NHL goal on Thursday. Luckily the Lightning have some time since they don't play again until Thursday.
Don't forget to wear your pink tonight as the Lightning support breast cancer awareness at the Times Forum.
Tonight's game can be caught on CW44 instead of Sun Sports.
