In Newark To Face The Devils, Then Home For Saturday
The Lightning got to New Jersey later than expected yesterday after sitting on the tarmac in Boston for around an hour yesterday due to air traffic in Newark. Most of the players killed time by having some lunch, playing their PSP or playing cards. As great as it is, even charter traffic can be delayed. The team got to Newark around 5:30 p.m. and settled in for the night. There really isn't much to do near the hotel other than a big mall so it was a quiet night.
Rick Tocchet is looking for the Lightning to play a tougher game. Not specifically fightning, but doing what he likes to call "pushing back". He feels the Lightning have let other teams be the aggressors of late and in their previous games against the Devils. Hopefully the team will respond tonight. Antero Niittymaki will get the start in nets. He has lost his two previous starts and will be looking to rebound. Todd Fedoruk and Matt Smaby will watch the game from the press box, that much is certain. Tocchet said the decsion on the third player to sit out tonight will be a game time decision.
In other news, the Lightning recalled Blair Jones from Norfolk today and he will play. It is the first time since December 22, 2007 that Jones with with the team. He had been playing well with the Admirals, leading the team with a plus-10 rating. He said this morning that the team wanted him to work on his defensive game and if that plus/minus is any indication he has done just that. The Lightning will expect him bring some energy and go to the net for some ugly goals.
The team will fly home after the game tonight and jump right back on the ice as they play the New York Islanders at the St. Pete Times Forum on Saturday.
