Lightning Reassign G Riku Helenius to Norfolk of the AHL

The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned goaltender Riku Helenius to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League today, Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced.

Helenius, 6-3, 211 pounds, served as the back-up in the Lightning’s 4-2 win against the Atlanta Thrashers Saturday night.  He has played in 12 games with the Admirals this season, recording a 5-7-0 record with a .896 save percentage and a 2.75 goals-against average.  Helenius made his NHL debut last season with Tampa Bay on January 30 against Philadelphia.  He made two saves in 6:52 of ice time in relief.

A native of Palkane, Finland, Helenius made his professional debut last season with Norfolk, as well as the ECHL’s Augusta Lynx, Mississippi Sea Wolves and Elmira Jackals.  With the Admirals he posted a 9-15-0 record with a 2.72 goals-against average.

Helenius was selected by Tampa Bay in the first round, 15th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
