The NHL Entry Draft will take place on June 25-26 in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on Versus, NHL Network and TSN. Prior to the draft, tampabaylightning.com caught up with Brett Connolly to ask him a few questions.
TBL: What are your feelings going into next weekend’s Draft?
BC: I’m excited, I’m anxious, and I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time. It’s finally here, just about a week away, so it’s pretty crazy. I can’t believe it. More than anything, I’m really excited.
TBL: Have you ever thought about what it would be like to play for the Tampa Bay Lightning, in a non-traditional hockey market?
BC: With the Lightning getting Yzerman, and with Stamkos there, and Lecavalier, St. Louis, there are a lot of good players there and I’m sure it is a nice city too, so playing in Tampa Bay would definitely be a dream come true, and it is something I would definitely like to do and be a part of.
TBL: What NHL team do you think would be the best fit for you?
BC: I think any of the teams with the Top 10 picks would be a good fit. I’m looking forward to going to a team that likes me and believes in what I can do. I can’t really pinpoint one team, but no matter who it is, I will be thankful and extremely happy to go to whichever team selects me.
TBL: What are your plans for the Draft weekend?
BC: I’ve got a lot of family members who will be there with me and a lot of friends coming in town to meet us, so overall I think we’re going to have about 25 people there to support me and cheer me on. It should be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to getting away for a bit. I think we’re going to stay there for about a week and I know I can really use that time to relax before gearing up for training camp. Being that the Draft is in Los Angeles, it should be a nice vacation spot and a good place where I can soak it all in.
