Panik a Player in Slovak Victory

Box Score

Lightning prospect Richard Panik scored a goal as Team Slovakia downed Germany in overtime, 2-1, on Day 2 of the 2011 World Junior Championships, being held in Buffalo, New York.

Panik, a second-round pick in 2009, netted his first of the tournament to open the scoring just eight seconds into the second period.  Fellow Lightning prospect Adam Janosik, a third-round pick this past summer, provided the primary assist on the goal.  Germany responded with a goal of their own late in the period to even the score at one.  The game remained knotted at one through regulation before Moncton Wildcat (QMJHL) Marek Hrivik netted the winner on the power play.  Panik added the first assist on the game-winner.

Both Panik and Janosik each registered two shots on goal and a plus-1 rating.  They will get back to action Tuesday at 8 p.m. against the United States.
