Lightning Beardathon Set To Continue Through Round 2 of Playoffs
Fans Encouraged to Grow Beards in Support of Team, Charity
With the second round of the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs set to kick off tonight, the Tampa Bay Lightning, in conjunction with the Lightning Foundation, are encouraging fans throughout the Bay Area to grow playoff beards to support the team and to raise money for charity. All proceeds from the contest will benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
To date, the Beard-A-Thon has raised $7,134 and continues to be a hallmark of support to both the Lightning players as they continue their quest for the Stanley Cup, as well as those within the community battling the more formidable opponent of cancer. Currently, the top beard grower on the Beard-A-Thon leaderboard has raised over $600. Fans may log on to http://www.beardathon.com/lightning to pledge an existing beard grower or to start their own to support the cause.
Fans are encouraged to participate immediately in order to start growing their beards and to afford themselves a chance at a number of great prizes. There will be a 24-hour “Beard Blitz,” in which the lucky individual who raises the most money in a designated 24-hour period will receive two complimentary Channelside Club tickets, inclusive with all-you-can-eat food and beverage, to Game 4 of the Lightning’s second-round series on Wednesday, May 4 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The grand prize winner will also receive an autographed item of Lightning memorabilia at the conclusion of the contest.
