Wednesday, September 21: Chris Dingman's Preseason Thoughts
Game two of a back to back versus St. Louis was played last night just down the I-4 at the awesome new Amway Center in Orlando. The Lightning planned bus trips to get people there and back from Tampa Bay, and lucky new season ticket holders received their new jerseys. Had a chance to talk to a group, and was cool to see how excited they were that they got their name and number of choice on the back (did see one number 11. Ha).
Dave Andreychuk, Stan Neckar and I held a youth clinic before the game with 50 kids, which was a blast! All the kids and parents were given a ticket to the game which was cool. The Lightning lost in a close won 4-3, but got power play goals from Marc Bergeron, Eric Brewer and Cory Conacher. Conacher looked impressive, very agile, quick, and paid the price running into the post to score. Blair Jones had a strong game getting an assist and killing penalties. St. Louis and Stamkos were buzzing and Dwayne Roloson looked sharp in 30 minutes of play, only giving up one goal.
The Lightning are 0-2 in preseason thus far, but keep in mind teams are only playing half their veterans, so games are more about evaluating young players and implementing systems. The Edmonton Oilers went 8-0 one preseason and missed the playoffs.
Next game is home vs. the Panthers on Friday.
Look forward to seeing everybody in their new jerseys!
