Tesla coils to be inactive for tonight's game
New special effect awaiting final approvals
TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning's new Tesla coils will be not active for this evening's home game at the St. Pete Times Forum with the New York Islanders. The new coils, recently installed as part of the arena's $40 million transformation, continue to undergo testing and fine-tuning while awaiting final approvals from the City of Tampa.
"We appreciate the patience of our fans while we work in partnership with the City of Tampa on this signature element of our game presentation," said Lightning Chief Executive Officer Tod Leiweke. "Like our new West Entry, ticket office and renovated restaurant, these are still works in progress. We are excited to unveil all of these new elements, and we want to get them exactly right for the fans….so we are taking the time to make sure we do."
The Tesla coils are used to create a lightning special effect, which will be integrated into the team's game presentation and event production.
