Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund to have surgery performed on left knee
The complex procedure will take place on Thursday at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where renowned specialist Anthony Miniaci will utilize a thin layer of titanium to resurface the bottom of the femur behind the kneecap. The idea will be to create a cushion that will prevent painful bone-on-bone friction. Although the procedure is set to take place this week, there is no definite timetable for Ohlund’s return.
Last season, Ohlund averaged 18:43 in ice time during the regular season and recorded five assists. His presence was felt even more during the Bolts’ run all the way to Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final, where his average ice time increased to 20:12, while also earning a plus-5 rating.
