Bolts Report: March 12

March 12, 2012

BACK IN ACTION
Following a day off from practice on Sunday, the Lightning returned to the friendly confines of the Tampa Bay Times Forum this morning to hold practice.

Bruno Gervais, who has missed each of the team’s past three games with an upper body injury, was upgraded from the red no-contact jersey to the yellow practice jersey on Monday for the team’s skate, while Steven Stamkos sat out of practice due to body maintenance.

HIGH PRAISE
Despite entering Tuesday’s contest against the Bruins having lost three straight games, Lightning Head Coach Guy Boucher said he has overall been pleased with the compete level of his team and the effort the club has showed in battling through adversity to remain in the playoff picture.

“Guys are feeling good and they’re upbeat,” Boucher said. “The last two games, our game has been raised to the highest it can be. We haven’t given a lot of chances to the opponent and I think that created a lot of momentum, but yeah, our game has been elevated.”

TOO MUCH ICE TIME?
Both Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos recorded career-highs in ice time during Saturday’s matchup against Carolina, with St. Louis registering 29:35 and Stamkos logging 27:31, but rather than view the marks as career milestones, Lightning Head Coach Guy Boucher chose to look at it otherwise.

“Too much,” Boucher said. “It was way too much. We had to, but we can’t keep this up for the rest of the year. I’m going to have to rely on some other guys. I can’t ask any more of them. They’ve been pushing and they’ve been giving everything they’ve got.”
