Day 14 World Championships Round Up

The Lightning players endured a rough day on Thursday at the 2012 IIHF World Championships.

Team USA, Team Canada and Team Sweden each saw their tournament experience come to an end with losses in their respective quarterfinal matches, with each coming by just a single goal.

Team USA fell to Finland 3-2, while Team Canada was defeated by Slovakia 4-3 and Team Sweden was bested by the Czech Republic, also by a score of 4-3.

Each of the contests came down to the wire, as Team USA yielded the game-winning goal with just nine seconds to play in regulation and Team Sweden allowed the decisive goal in its match in the final minute of play. Team Canada also saw its 2-2 tie with the Slovaks get snapped with 2:28 to go in the game.

Nate Thompson logged 11:26 of ice time for the Americans, but finished with a minus-3 rating on the day and did not mark the score sheet. His Bolts teammate, JT Brown, was a healthy scratch.

For the Canadian side, Teddy Purcell played just 3:42 and earned an even rating, while Victor Hedman logged 13:46, notched one shot on goal and finished with an even rating for the Swedes.
