The Tampa Bay Lightning are asking fans to vote for the top moments in franchise history as the team celebrates its 20th season in 2012-13. Fans can log on to www.20YearsofThunder.com starting today to vote on their favorite moments, but their experience will go much further than simply checking a box.
Once they log on to www.20YearsofThunder.com, fans will encounter a fully interactive and social media friendly experience unlike any they have had before in similar sites. Voters will be able to scroll a timeline which will span the Lightning’s franchise history, starting in 1990 with the founding of the team to present day. By clicking on each moment, fans can view details on each moment including video of the event, comments from team personalities and alumni, photos and more. The voting results for the top 20 moments will be used during the upcoming 2012-13 season. They will be featured across all Lightning platforms and celebrated throughout the year, allowing fan voting to dictate what the team recognizes during the season.
“We would like to invite all Lightning fans to help us decide the top moments in franchise history,” said Lightning vice president of brand management Lynn Wittenburg. “As in everything we do, we recognize that our great fans and season ticket members are the thunder behind the Lightning so we are asking each of them to share their favorite moments and milestones. We are excited to use new technology to bring this new web experience to our fans.”
In what is a first in professional sports, the site and Facebook are fully integrated, as fans will have the ability to vote and/or click through to add their favorite moments to their Facebook timelines. Visitors will also have the option to share the memories of their top choices on the site starting in September. Fans will be able to relive their moments and tell their stories, further helping fans to “Be the Thunder” of the Lightning.
The site’s timeline experience is built in HTML5 that allows fans to scroll through the top moments in franchise history. The format also allows users to view the content and fully utilize the site on tablet and mobile devices, as well as most browsers.
