The Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa, Florida has been ranked second in the United States (fifteenth in the world) by Pollstar magazine, as well as ranked ninth in the United States (fourteenth in the world) by Venues Today magazine. The mid-year rankings are based on worldwide ticket sales for concerts, events and family shows in venues seating 15,001 or more.

This honor comes in addition to the Times Forum earning the award for best sports and entertainment facility for the second consecutive year at the Tampa Bay Sports Commission Sneaker Soiree.

“We are pleased that the Tampa Bay Times Forum had such a strong start to 2012, welcoming many notable acts including Bruce Springsteen and Coldplay, along with the college hockey’s national championship, the Frozen Four,” said Elmer Straub, Vice President of Event Booking for the Times Forum. “Moving forward, we are pleased to host the Republican National Convention this August, helping place the national spotlight on the Tampa Bay community.”

The Tampa Bay Times Forum recently underwent a privately-funded $45 million capital expenditures plan that renovated and modernized the Tampa Bay Times Forum. The project, which completed an arena transformation project began shortly after Chairman and Governor Jeff Vinik purchased the Tampa Bay Lightning in March 2010, improved the facility for fans, players, sponsorship partners and employees.

Highlights from the transformation include a new grand entry on the west side of the Times Forum, that offers a redesigned ticket office and merchandise shop while offering fans a better connection to the main concourse; new seats for every fan; an 11,000 square-foot signature outdoor deck extending from the west side of the arena’s Terrace Level overlooking downtown Tampa; the removal of eight suites on the Plaza level, opening up the arena bowl to the main concourse; the enhancement of each of the arena’s remaining suites; the removal of several suites on the Plaza Level, opening up the arena floor to the concourse; a new Chairman’s Club; an enhanced Lightning team locker room; new concourse flooring and concession stands; substantial improvements to a dilapidated HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) system, allowing the arena to be warmer for the fans and the ice surface better for the players; and the upcoming installation of a high-definition center-hung video board.

The Times Forum has had a busy start to the 2012 calendar year including such highlights as Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® presents Dragons, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Diamond, Van Halen, Coldplay, Def Leppard and more. The venue will welcome two nights of Professional Bull Riding, 2012 Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, Champions Tennis featuring legends John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors later this year, as well as host the Republican National Convention in August.
