Lightning Conference First Week Recap
High School Hockey\'s Lightning Conference weekly recap of first week of play.

The first week of the 2012-13 high school hockey season has come and gone in the Lightning hockey Conference, and six teams sit atop the standings tied for first place. Gaither/Sickles, Palm Harbor, Mitchell, Jesuit, Freedom and East Lake all have two wins through two games to start the season. Friday night’s action saw Mitchell steamroll Bloomingdale, 11-0, while Palm Harbor had no trouble in a 15-4 victory against Berkeley.

Jenkins, Newsome, Berkeley, Steinbrenner, Seminole and Bloomingdale are all winless through two games and will be looking for their first win next Friday, October 5th when action resumes.

Palm Harbor’s Hunter Sheehan has got off to a scintillating start in his senior season, standing as the league’s top scorer with 16 points through two games, while his teammate, junior forward Joshua Ovitt, sits just behind him on the leaderboard with 12 points through two games.

Freedom goaltender Tommy Kilker has been a rock so far this season, earning a 1.50 goals-against average through two games. Gaither/Sickles net minder Andrew Skora has also performed admirably this season, posting a 2.00 goals-against average in two victories.

Every team will resume play Friday, October 5th when action continues. Jesuit (2-0) looks to remain undefeated as they play Wharton (1-1) at ISF Brandon- North Rink, while Gaither/Sickles (2-0) looks to fend off a hungry Seminole (0-2) squad that is looking for their first win.
