Prospect Performer of the Week
Nikita Kucherov, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 58th selection of the 2011 NHL Draft, is the Lightning Prospect Performer of the Week for the period ending December 10.
Kucherov has been dynamite for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since being traded from the Quebec Ramparts on November 21.
In seven games with his new club, Kucherov has accounted for six goals and six assists. Kucherov has posted a superb plus-6 rating on the ice as well.
This week was no different for Kucherov as he amassed six points in two games and a plus-2 rating.
Kucherov scored the lone goal in Rouyn-Noranda’s 5-1 loss to Moncton on Tuesday night.
On Friday night, Kucherov had an outstanding game in a 6-4 win against Val-d’Or.
Kucherov recorded his first career QMJHL hat trick to go along with two assists.
Kucherov’s first goal Friday night tied the score at two going into the locker room after the first period. Kucherov scored again late in the second stanza to give his team a 4-2 lead after two periods before securing his hat trick and a victory with an empty-net goal late in the third period.
With his stellar week, Kucherov now has nine goals and 13 assists in only 13 games this season combined with a plus-5 rating on the ice.
Tanner Richard (Forward) – Guelph – OHL – Richard had a great week for the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League. Richard picked up a goal and five assists, while posting a plus-4 rating and seven penalty minutes in three games. Richard’s lone goal was a big one. With less than a minute left in the game, Richard beat Kitchener Rangers goalie Franky Palazzese to send the game into overtime where Guelph would eventually win in a shootout. The goal was only Richard’s third of the season, but with five assists this week he now ranks second in the OHL with 36. He also leads Guelph in scoring with 39 points and is second for plus/minus with a plus-13 and penalty minutes with 65.
J.T. Brown (Forward) – Syracuse – AHL – Brown was solid for the Syracuse Crunch as he registered at least a point in each of Syracuse’s three games during the weekend. Brown notched an assist in the Crunch’s 5-1 home win against Hamilton on Friday night before collecting two more assists in Saturday’s 4-3 shootout loss to Adirondack. Brown scored one of the two Syracuse goals Sunday in a 7-2 loss at the hands of Bridgeport. With four points Brown raised his season point l to 15 with five goals and 10 assists.
Cédric Paquette (Forward) – Blainville-Boisbriand – QMJHL – Cédric Paquette put another good week in the books with five assists, two penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating in three games. Registering at least an assist in every game this week for Blainville-Boisbriand, including a three-assist performance against Val-d’Or Sunday, Paquette now leads his team in assists with 27 and points with 40. Paquette does not just contribute points for his club, he is also the go-to-guy in the faceoff circle as well. Paquette leads his team in faceoffs taken 597 and faceoffs won 319. This past week Paquette won 43 out of the 59 faceoffs he took.
