PROSPECT PERFORMER OF THE WEEK

Tyler Johnson is this week’s Lightning Prospect Performer Of The Week, for the period ending March 4.

Johnson had a goal and an assist over the weekend, and was one of just two Syracuse Crunch players, joining Mark Barberio, to record points in two of the team’s three games this weekend.

From a team standpoint, the weekend didn’t go as well as the club would have liked, as the Crunch were swept, losing in each of the three games to Albany, Rochester and Hershey respectively.

But Johnson, at least, gave his team a chance to win, as Friday and Saturday’s games were both close, decided by no more than two goals each.

On Friday in a 3-1 loss to the Albany Devils, Johnson had an assist, setting up the only goal of the game for Syracuse, which came from Brett Connolly.

After an effort on Saturday, a 2-1 defeat to the Rochester Americans, in which he failed to mark the score sheet, Johnson was at it again, just one day later on Sunday, as he notched a goal in a 5-3 loss to the Hershey Bears.

Overall, Johnson has recorded six points in his past five games and is second in AHL scoring with 55 points, while maintaining a two-goal edge for the AHL goal-scoring lead with a league-best 29 goals on the year.

NOTES AND NUMBERS

-With a record of 34-16-3-4 and 75 points, the Crunch are on top of the East Division in first place, and are second in the entire Eastern Conference behind only the Springfield Falcons.

-Brett Connolly has points in 13 of his past 16 games.

-Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins went over eight periods without allowing a goal at the War Memorial until Friday night, when he allowed the first of three goals on the night in a 3-1 loss to the Albany Devils.
