Practice Report 3/15/13
Only about 10 players from the Tampa Bay Lightning skated today at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, while the rest were also present to attend meetings and participate in off-ice workouts.
Here are some of the highlights from Friday’s optional skate:
Guy Boucher said Friday that Mathieu Garon will get the start in net against the Hurricanes on Saturday night.
Garon has appeared in each of the two meetings thus far between the Lightning and Hurricanes this season, earning wins in both and allowing fewer than two goals in each.
Still, it comes as a bit of a surprise, as Garon hasn’t played since March 4.
Anders Lindback, meanwhile, has looked sharp in two straight games and hasn’t allowed more than two goals in each of his past five consecutive games.
News broke yesterday that Vincent Lecavalier was placed on Injured Reserve, as he remains out indefinitely with a lower body injury.
On Friday, Guy Boucher said Benoit Pouliot is “still a ways away” although Pouliot did skate on Friday morning wearing the red jersey.
“It felt good to be back because it’s almost been two weeks,” Pouliot said. “But things have been getting better every day, and it’s just a matter of time. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I know it’s still going to be a few more days for sure.”
There is still no timetable in place for Pouliot’s return.
When it comes to Tom Pyatt, however, that’s a bit of a different story.
Boucher said Pyatt might be available for tomorrow’s game versus the Hurricanes, but didn’t sound 100 percent positive.
Like Pouliot, Pyatt also skated Friday morning wearing the red jersey and said he felt as if he was ready to return.
“I’m feeling better than I thought and there’s a chance I might be in tomorrow, as long as I’m making progress and still feeling good,” Pyatt said. “It shouldn’t be too much longer.”
The Lightning placed forward Adam Hall on waivers Friday morning and the team will have to wait until Saturday at noon to find out whether or not he clears.
