Drouin\u2019s Childhood Dream Comes True
Drouin\u2019s Childhood Dream Comes True

At 3:22 Eastern Time on Sunday afternoon at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the Tampa Bay Lightning made Jonathan Drouin’s dream come true selecting him third overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Drouin said being drafted is definitely “a childhood dream,” but something that makes it even more special is that the Lightning organization selected him.

“I am really honored to be selected by Tampa Bay,” Drouin stated. “From the beginning Tampa is where I wanted to go. They have a great group of young prospects and veteran guys, so I think it is the best fit for me.”

Drouin, who was the 2012-13 Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year, will complement the high-powered offense in Tampa Bay nicely. Drouin led the Halifax Mooseheads with 41 goals and 105 points in 49 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season games during the 2012-13 season and added 12 goals and 35 points in 17 playoff games.

Even though Drouin possesses an immense amount of skill, many say his biggest asset is his high hockey IQ. Drouin naturally makes players around him better with his knowledge and play-making ability. His 69 assists last season speak to that as well.

That hockey IQ and the way Drouin thinks the game enables him to be a great two-way player as well. The QJMHL MVP posted an incredible plus/minus rating of plus-43 last season and was a plus-28 during the playoffs.

There is no doubt the Lightning organization gained a world-class player. Now all that is left to see is how fast Drouin can climb to the NHL level.

It will be a sight to see Drouin on the ice with the likes of Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos.

“One day I hope I get to play alongside Stamkos,” the newest face in the Lightning organization stated. “He is a great player and I have loved watching him play.”
