Lightning to Host Hockey Day in Tampa Bay February 9
The Tampa Bay Lightning will host \u201CHockey Day in Tampa Bay\u201D at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Sunday, February 9 beginning at 2:30 p.m.

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning will host “Hockey Day in Tampa Bay” at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Sunday, February 9 beginning at 2:30 p.m. Hockey Day in Tampa Bay will feature a pair of high school hockey games, a Lightning Alumni sled hockey game as well as a used hockey equipment sale. There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door with proceeds benefitting community hockey initiatives in Tampa Bay.

At 3 p.m. Lightning Conference all-star high school players will take to the ice at the Times Forum. Lightning alumni Brian Bradley and Dave Andreychuk will serve as team captains. Each school selected two all-stars from their respective teams to participate while Bradley and Andreychuk selected three goaltenders.

Following the high school all-star game, at 4:45 p.m., the Lightning Sled Hockey team will play alongside Bolts alumni. Alumni expected to participate are Andreychuk, Bradley, Jassen Cullimore, Chris Kontos and Chris Dingman. Sled hockey athletes use a metal frame with two blades, and instead of using one stick, players use two with fixed ice picks to propel them down the ice. Although in its infancy, the Lightning Sled Hockey team won the 2012 National Championship with a collection of players from various organizations and produced two Paralympic athletes who will participate in the 2014 games in Sochi, Russia.

Finally, at 6:15 p.m., the top two high school hockey teams from the area will square off in the Lightning Cup Finals. The teams playing in the game will be determined after the semi-finals on February 7. The game will also air on Bright House Sports Network.

The used equipment will run from 2:30 p.m. through 6:15 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will benefit local hockey initiatives.

Concession stands will be open throughout the event for attendees.
