Slater Koekkoek is Lightning Prospect of the Week
Tampa Bay Lightning prospect and Windsor Spitfires captain and defenseman, Slater Koekkoek, is currently riding a three-game point streak and sits tied for third on the team in points.
Koekkoek's most recent performances have come in the month of February in which he has nine points through eight games (two goals, seven assists). The Spitfires were also able to clinch a playoff berth helped by Koekkoek's on-ice performance. Koekkoek's plus-minus rating of plus-46 is also good for second-highest in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
Koekkoek, 20, was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning 10th overall in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After being sidelined by a season-ending shoulder injury in the 2010-11 season, Koekkoek has impressed in the 2013-14 campaign with his apparent rebound from the ailment, which seems to have only boosted his confidence on the ice.
His last season points total was 29 points through 46 games played (six goals, 23 assists) and he has notably continued to improve in all areas on the ice this year, where he currently has 49 points through 56 games played (14 goals, 35 assists).
The Spitfires, who are currently second in the West Division, will look to their captain again in their upcoming back-to-back contests to advance Windsor's record going into the OHL playoffs. The OHL postseason is slated to begin in March.
