Prospect of the Week: Andrey Vasilevskiy
Tampa Bay Lightning prospect and Salavat Yulaev Ufa goaltender, Andrey Vasilevskiy, finished off the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) regular season with a 14-8-5 record and three shutouts, leading his team into the 2013-14 playoffs.
Opening the postseason against KHL rival, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, the rookie starter was able to secure a berth to the next round of the playoffs, despite losing the first two tilts and stretching the series to seven games. Though Vasilevskiy lost three out of seven games in the series, he now boasts impressive numbers in the postseason, including a 1.95 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.
Prior to joining Ufa, the 6-foot-3, 204-pound netminder spent time with Tolpar Ufa of the MHL, Russia's top junior level league, and finished the 2012-13 season there with the top save percentage (.930) and goals-against (1.93) average. He also posted a 17-6 record in 27 regular season games.
Following the opening series win, fourth-seeded Ufa will move on to the Eastern Conference Semifinals round to face second-seeded Barys Astana, which is set to begin Friday, March 21.
